Three Reasons Why It’s Crucial to Review Your Medicare Advantage and or Your Medicare Advantage Plan Annually

With the new year fast approaching, it is time again for those enrolled in either Medicare Advantage Plans and/or Stand Alone Medicare Part D Prescription plans to review coverages for 2022. The Medicare Annual Election Period (“AEP”) is the only time of year that Medicare eligible persons can review and modify their plan portfolio for January 1. 2022. First, during the AEP Preview Period which runs from October 1, 2021 through October 14 2021, people can preview their current plan and determine if any changes are needed for 2022, although changes cannot actually be made until October 15, when the preview periods ends. The AEP then runs from October 15, 2021 through December 7, 2022. During this period, previews still continue, but those persons needing to make changes can apply to their new plan. It is extremely important to be aware that after December 7, 2021, no further changes are permitted. The dates above are Medicare standards each and every year.
Why do you need to review your Medicare plans annually?
- Medicare plans change and plan provisions change each year.
- With Medicare Prescription plans, formularies change meaning that new meds may be covered and/or currently covered meds may be dropped.
- Consciously or subconsciously, you may have added or dropped medications throughout the year.
